Get Ready to Grow: Simple Tips to Get Started with Gardening

  1. Start small: Beginners can start with an easy-to-grow plant like a succulent. The small size of a succulent makes them low-maintenance, and they require little water.

  2. The right pot size: Make sure the pot you get is the right size for the type of plant you have. Bigger plants will need a larger pot to give them enough room to grow.

  3. Get the right soil: Choose a soil specifically designed for the type of plant you’re trying to grow. Different plants have different needs when it comes to soil pH balance and water retention.

  4. Provide proper sunlight: Most plants need some sunlight to thrive. Check if your plant thrives in low, medium, or direct sunlight, make sure to place it in a spot that gets at least 4 hours of the plant's preferred sunlight a day.

  5. Water regularly: Overwatering or underwatering your plants can be fatal, so be sure to keep track of your plant’s water needs. Some plants need more water than others but, generally, it’s best to water your plants when the top inch of soil is dry.

  6. Prune your plants: Pruning helps maintain the shape and size of your plant and can also help encourage new growth. Pruning also helps remove dead and dying leaves, which can help prevent certain diseases.

  7. Re-pot if needed: Repotting your plants can help them remain healthy and avoid becoming root-bound. Repotting also gives your plants more space for growth and can help replenish soil nutrients.
